Commencing in 1976 with 2 divisions and 86 students, the Primary School of SSL has grown significantly. Presently, student enrolment from 1st to 4th grade has surged to 294, distributed across 11 divisions.
The Primary Section has been enthusiastically celebrating all the occasions, festivals, and events in the school. Starting with International Yoga Day, Celebration of Guru Pournima and Aashadhi Ekadashi. Also, during the Hindu month of Shravan, many other festivals of cultural importance are celebrated in the school.
National Festivals such as Independence Day, Republic Day, Maharashtra Din are also celebrated by the students and the staff members. The school has also been celebrating Reading Inspiration Day on the account of the Birth Anniversary of the Former President of India, Bharatratna A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Sir every year. Children’s Day, Teachers’ Day, etc are also part of the annual celebrations. The educational importance of these occasions is also taught to the children.
Festivals like Christmas, Diwali, Navratra are also celebrated with enthusiasm. Various Competitions too are held every year in the memory of the pioneer of female – education Savitribai Phule. Competitions for reciting Manache Shlok are also held every year at school and inter – school levels to inculcate cultural values amongst the children.
Also, free vaccination drives for the children and medical health check – up camp for the staff members is conducted by the League every year benefiting all the children and the staff members of the League. Celebration of Marathi Rajbhasha Diwas has always been a significant occasion.
Essay writing, elocution, storytelling, poetry recitation competitions, etc are held throughout the year by the teachers to ensure participation by all the students. Sports day was held in the month of January. Obstacle race, balancing, and many such fun games were a part of it. We believe that students should enjoy the process of learning and must be keen to participate in all sorts of activities.
Furthermore, students receive focused preparation for the Government’s Middle School Scholarship exam through additional and specialised coaching facilities without any additional fees being charged by the school.
